If London life is getting too much then take a deep breathe, book a flight, buy a bikini and get ready to relax in Koh Samui. This resort, unlike many others on the island, is the true definition of a secluded getaway. Rather than being a short stroll from a bustling town full of nightlife it’s a serene escape in a world of it’s own.
Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort is nestled in the sheltered cove of Hanuman Bay. For the two nights I spent here I did little more than walk along the shore and and enjoy the ultimate luxuries that the resort had to offer… soft sands and a salty sea breeze.
When we arrived at the resort we checked in and headed straight to our suite. The furnishings in our room were minimal and mostly crisp, clean white. I liked that the colours in the room were kept to natural tones to let the beautiful views outside our window do the talking.
The open-plan design and high ceilings made our suite feel comfortable and spacious. Whether you stay in a pool suite or villa, you’ll have the luxury of your own private plunge pool to cool off in when the temperature rises. We were staying in a Garden Pool Suite so the leaves of an overhanging tree fell into the pool; I would recommend upgrading to an Ocean View Pool Suite if you want a beautiful view of the ocean and a foliage-free pool.
During our stay we spent most of our time on the large sofa beds above the beach; watching the waves crash into the rocks on Hanuman Bay. It was easy for the time to fly by reading books, drinking fresh coconuts and napping in the sun.
Outrigger is on a secluded beach so finding the perfect place for a refreshing dip is easy. The hotel even have snorkelling equipment you can borrow to explore the cove. Unfortunately it was rainy during our stay so the sea was too stormy for swimming. Instead, we strolled along the shore with a glass of rose. If only I could do this every weekend *sigh*
Although the resort is quite small there are lots of dining options. Blue Fire serves grilled meats (we didn’t try this one during our stay). Edgewater presents delicious Thai food that’s made exactly how it should be, using authentic local flavours and served right on the waterfront. We loved lunch from the beach counter which served a selection of Mediterranean-inspired light bites.
The culinary highlight had to be the delicious mango sticky rice! I developed quite an addiction to this dessert whilst I was in Thailand and had it almost every day. Just thinking about it now is making my mouth water…
Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and the breakfast at Outrigger didn’t disappoint! The breakfast included with each room generously allows you to choose two dishes. I loved this because it meant I could have savoury AND sweet as I’m usually torn between the two. Scrambled eggs with salmon followed by French toast? Yes please!
Iced coffee in Thailand is very yummy so be sure to start your day with one of these refreshing drinks. I got up quite early every morning just to make the most of a leisurely breakfast at Outrigger.
Outrigger is the perfect place for a peaceful island escape as it’s nestled on what feels like it’s own private beach. It’s a getaway for enjoying the simple pleasures in life like long walks on the coast, relaxing with a book and spending time with someone special over delicious food. I could have spent a whole week here with little more packed in my suitcase than sunglasses, a good book and a bikini.
