All over the streets of New York Fashion Week there were beautiful burgundy bags, coats, suits and scarves – proving once and for all that black has had its day. For the time being anyway….
When I started getting invites through my letterbox for London Fashion Week I knew one of my outfits would be inspired by the burgundy trend. It may have only been the first two days of LFW but I can definitely say that London has well and truly confirmed its fashion capital status with bloggers, fashionistas and street style enthusiasts out in force so I couldn’t wait to share my outfit with you!
After a whirlwind day of running around the city for runway shows, press meetings and showroom tours I headed to Aubaine for Martinis and Macaroons with some of my favourite fashion blogger friends. It was lovely to catch up with them and indulge in a digital detox after a day of constant tweeting, emailing and instagramming! Of course as soon as I saw a crisp white wall outside the restaurant and knew I had a spare ten minutes I couldn’t resist stopping to take some photographs…
Although burgundy looks like a very premium palette most of my outfit was from New Look!!! I got the dress, jumper and shoes from a fabulous New Look press event and they are such great pieces for updating an autumn wardrobe. The colour is super versatile and can easily be teamed with plaid for a go-to-work look, beige for warmth on the weekend, or by itself for a sleek and sophisticated evening alternative.
This burgundy lace dress is the perfect occasion piece with a pair of stilettos but I styled it more casually by layering it with this roll neck jumper and my favourite fedora. As soon as it gets a little colder I love investing in everyday knitwear for the autumn!
The delicate detailing of the lace looks so beautiful when it shows over the lining of the dress but unfortunately it kept creeping up which ruined the effect. The ‘sexy slip’ dress design is very popular at the moment so if you want a dress that shows more of the lace against your legs you’re spoilt for choice on the high street.
My favourite thing about this outfit, without a doubt, is the cute shoes! With their pointed toe, flat sole and pom pom front they’re absolutely adorable. They’re such a retro touch and go perfectly with my vintage-inspired saddle bag from Accessorize. I also added a leather tassel to the chain detail after seeing it in the Accessorize shop window and thinking how perfectly they went together. I’m obsessed with handbags and HAD to have one in my new favourite shade so Accesorize was the first place I shopped as I’m never disappointed by their collections.
If you’re looking to add a bit of Fashion Week style to your autumn wardrobe then I would definitely recommend creating a colour story with this surprisingly versatile standout shade!
