St. James’ Court invited me to take a journey down the rabbit hole and try their Tea Party in Wonderland afternoon tea…
The hotel is perfectly placed between Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. Once you arrive at the St. James’ Court you walk through a grand entrance complete with marble and chandeliers. We were then directed outside through the hotel’s courtyard for our tea. It was beautiful red brick and green tile with a fountain at the centre. I couldn’t believe that this hidden courtyard full of charm was right here in London – make sure you keep this our little secret!
The Tea Party in Wonderland was fantastical, elegant and fun – it had me grinning like a Cheshire Cat (that’s the last wonderland pun, I promise). The menu was an eclectic mix of cakes and pastries inspired by characters and quirks from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. For a literary fan like me it was lovely to see all of the clever cake names. My favourite had to be the bright pink macaroon decorated like a pocket watch… how cute!
We began with finger sandwiches and scones but the sweat treats were the main attraction. There were ‘Queen of Hearts’ Mango Tarts, ‘Drink Me’ strawberry potion, ‘Caterpillar’s Mushroom’ Raspberry Marshmallows and White Chocolate Mousse Teacups. It’s fair to say that by the end I couldn’t have eaten another bite – they really did spoil us.
If you’re looking for an afternoon tea with a difference this is just for you! The hotel is only footsteps from Buckingham Palace and St. James’ Park so it’s the perfect place to take a friend visiting London. You can show them the sights of the city and then spoil them with sweet treats – sounds like a perfect day to me.
