Recently I’ve had the desire to escape the hustle and bustle of the city so when I was invited to a spa day in the heart of London I was thrilled. At the Sofitel London St James I discovered So SPA where high ceilings, natural daylight, smooth music and fragrance come together to make a unique French spa experience – oh la la!
When I arrived at the Spa I was invited to the dark oak pavilion structure that houses a social Tea Bar and boutique to wait whilst I answered a questionnaire about my treatment. As I sat down on the large marble table I was brought a hot flannel and a warm honey drink to begin the relaxation process.
With the ‘French touch’ spa menu inspired by gastronomy, I was able to choose from starters, mains or desserts and even specials with signature treatments including the So Rejuvenating facial and the So Exhilarating massage created exclusively for So SPA. I enjoyed the Balinese Massage which is a treatment that follows a ritual from Bali that combines Thaï gentle pulling and smoothing traditional movements.
It took a while to relax and get used to being comfortable in a strangers hands but the firm pressure quickly relaxed me. The 60 minute treatment worked on areas that I had specified often gave me my trouble, my shoulders and lower back, without feeling rushed. It was clear that my masseuse was exceptionally well trained as she released so much tension in my muscles that I didn’t know I even had!
One of my favourite things about So Spa is the special tea service they include after each treatment, in the soothing surroundings of the deep relaxation lounge, as it makes such a huge difference to the relaxation process if you are able to rest after your treatment rather than having to rush off and get changed straight away. The tea was an uplifting blend of roses from Provence and Morocco which was a perfect post-massage drink as I know roses are great for the skin.
