Do you ever feel like you’re in a bit of a health slump? Well I do, and I’m in one right now. Boo! Recently I’ve been throwing everything I have into office life and busying myself with blogging so I haven’t been treating my body well. Getting in a cycle of eating rubbish food and not exercising is easy to fall into but I’ve finally decided to break the habit and go back to basics.
As well as exercising, eating well and getting to bed earlier (early bedtimes are cool ok) I’ve been using Seven Seas to help me get all the Omega-3 and Vitamin D I need. The lovely ladies at Seven Seas helped me do an Omega 3 Index test reviewed by a Professor of Nutritional Immunology. I didn’t know much about omega-3 when I was contacted about the test so I thought it was a great chance to learn more about my health.
My Omega-3 levels were measured by a blood sample (taken through a simple finger prick) which was then used to calculate a percentage of the Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA) in my blood cells. The higher the index, the more Omega-3 you have in your body.
Professor Philip Calder specialises in omega-3 fatty acids so he was the perfect expert to study my results. They revealed that I have an omega-3 index of 3.5. What does this mean? Well, this is below the threshold for concern of 4 and indicates that I’m not eating anywhere near enough EPA and DHA. I need to include more fatty fish like salmon, sardines or mackerel in my diet and a great start is using an omega-3 supplement like Seven Seas. I’m so glad I did the test because I never would have considered worrying about my Omega-3 levels without it.
