Notting Hill Carnival

I look forward to August Bank Holiday every year. The sun shines, the rum flows and it’s time for Notting Hill Carnival. 🇯🇲🎶🍹🍍💛💚 It’s the greatest street party in the world and, luckily for me, it’s just around the corner. For two days West London is transformed into party central with a host of amazing reggae and grime sound systems lining the streets. When I’m setting off for a day of dancing I want to be sure that I’m comfortable so I ditch the heels and opt for some trainers as I pack my essentials: hand wipes, cash for food, water and Rennie.

I spent most of my day at the Rampage Stage partying with my friends. Playing hip-hop and jungle this is the stage you head to if you want to dance all day. After tiring ourselves out jumping around in the sun we headed to Westbourne Grove to join the parade route and admire the floats sparkling with sequins and feathers.

The smells of the open air barbecues at Carnival are hard to resist. There are food and drink stalls around every corner so settling on one can be a tricky choice. Traditional jerk chicken is my favourite but if you’re feeling more adventurous you can find Caribbean cuisine like salt fish, curried goat and jambalaya around Portobello Road and beyond. Alongside the food stalls I found someone selling pineapples filled with Pina Colada and refreshing sugar cane. Yes please!

I love getting involved with everything Carnival has to offer… the dancing, food, drinks oh and did I mention wearing my favourite festival-friendly outfit? But there’s not much worse than being struck by bloating during a carnival so I always have Rennie handy. Eating street food on the go can cause heartburn and indigestion (especially if you’re dancing all day like me). No one wants those annoying rumbling noises coming from their tummy so I love Rennie as it’s fast-acting and relieves heartburn in no time. Then I can get back to the dancing…

My red tassel earrings gave me a flash of fabulous carnival spirit and I kept the rest of my carnival outfit simple with a white t-shirt and denim shorts. Did you go to Notting Hill Carnival this year? Comment below to let me know what your essentials were!
